Laura and Cory Anders welcome you to The Dor Cros Inn located on beautiful Washington Island…The Crown of Door County Wisconsin. Stay for the night (upon availability) or stay for a week. Come by yourself... come as a couple or bring the whole family for some much deserved "R & R". There are activities for all ages and the Island is a year-round experience. We invite you to read on and discover why so many of our Island guests come for a week and go home tired. Be sure to check on our "Things to do" page for current Island events.

Don't forget to try the Island's fresh Door County bounty.

We are just minutes from the Washington Island Car Ferry landing as well as our quaint downtown area with it's unique shops and restaurants. We offer several cozy studio style cabins, each unique from the other and some with kitchenettes. Our full size cottage, the "Loft", may be an option for your stay. Our grounds offer picnic tables, weber grills and chaise chairs in pockets of privacy. We also provide complimentary guest bicycles during your stay with us.

Ask about our Lake Cruises.

We are within a 5-minute walk to the gorgeous island shoreline or just a short drive to some of the most pristine beaches in the world. It has been said that there are only 5 beaches in the world like Schoolhouse Beach. Come and see why. Stand in one of the many Island wheat fields... grown for the new great tasting ale named after the Island. Spend a lazy day at the beach or witness a beautiful Door County sunset from the bluffs of People's Park. Come back to The Dor Cros Inn for an evening campfire under our starry skies. We provide the wood you provide the marshmallows. You may even have the good fortune of witnessing the mysterious Northern Lights.

Our studio style cabins.

When hunger grips you stop at one of Washington Island's famous restaurants to experience some of the local fare. We have several restaurants on the island with a variety to choose from on their menus. Anything from as simple as a great cheeseburger and ice cream at the Albatross, an old fashioned drive-in hamburger stand to candlelight and fine dining at The Washington Hotel, once a hotel for ship captains back in the 1850's. After a bite to eat head to the greens for around of golf or if you are like us maybe mininature golf is more your style.

Gather around our campfire.

Start your morning with compli-mentary fresh Coffee and then set out to explore the Island…a haven for the adventurer. Experience the island by biking, hiking, kayaking or on horseback. Take a ride on the Cherry Train for a narrated open-air tram tour of the island. Stop at the island Zoo for a visit with a camel, ostrich, icelandic horse or "Honey" the bear.

Visit our historic museums that will provide you a porthole to Washington Island's past. For a relaxing afternoon learn to work the loom by taking a class at Sievers the world renowned School of Fiber Arts (Just one of the many types of classes offered). Your Island visit wouldn't be complete unless you payed a visit to Rock Island for the day. A 15 minute passenger ferry from Washington Island will place you in one of the Countries most unique and beautiful spots... this Wisconsin State Park only allows foot prints (...no bikes or cars). While on Rock Island be sure to tour the first lighthouse built on the Great Lakes back in 1836. Enjoy the beautiful sand beach & miles of hiking trails.

Let's Talk About Fall...

Fall... is an interesting time on the Island. Being out approximately 7 miles into Lake Michigan creates some unique differences in our seasons compared to our mainland neighbors on the Peninsula of Door County.  Cool and icy harbors in the spring time cause a later start to the Island growing season.  The lilacs are usually not in full bloom until the first part of June and our fall colors are typically a week or so behind the mainland.  Ahhh... and warmer falls too. After a nice warm summer like we have had our surrounding harbors tend to keep us warmer into the fall season. Making for very pleasant & comfortable bicycling as you discover Washington Island.

Great mode of Island transportation.

So... just one of the many unique experiences Door County has to offer is this. You can be witness to an interesting phenomenon as the Door County Peninsula and Washington Island seasons change. Experience peak fall colors one week on the mainland Peninsula of Door County and then extend your vacation to include Washington Island (one of Door Counties most pristine Islands) the following week for one of the longest...most beautiful... fall foliage color shows in the United States.
